Issue:
When attempting to attach a file in Notes of Dynamics 365 record, the following error occurs: “The attachment is either not a valid type or is too large. It cannot be uploaded or downloaded.” This prevents users from successfully uploading or downloading the attachment.
Solution:
This issue typically occurs due to file size limitations or restrictions on the content type of the attachment. When a file exceeds the allowed size or is in an unsupported format, Dynamics will prevent it from being uploaded or downloaded. To resolve this, you can reduce the file size or update content type settings through the Power Platform Admin Portal. By modifying these configurations, you can ensure that files of the appropriate size and format are accepted, allowing successful uploads and downloads within the system.
How to change settings?
- Navigate to admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com.
- In the left navigation pane, select “Environments,” then choose the environment where the setting needs to be changed.
- Select Setting -> Product -> Privacy + Security.

- Remove allowed file types from Blocked Attachments list.
